چکیده

Indexing multimedia Web documents can be regarded as an important part of Web engineering, a concept first proposed [19] by one of the authors and his collaborators in 1998 at the World Wide Web WWW7 conference in Brisbane, Australia. Contentbased indexing of multimedia has always been a challenging task. The enormity and diversity of the multimedia content on the World Wide Web (WWW) adds another dimension to this challenge. Today multimedia elements are increasingly being embedded in Web documents, and are being actively used to enhance the description of the document content. Since such documents over the WWW provide a rich source of information, the use of multimedia elements in Web documents has become very prevalent. In this paper, we first give a thorough review on the existing literature related to the traditional content-based image retrieval (CBIR) systems along with the methodology of relevance feedback. We then propose a unified approach for image indexing and retrieval for our Image Search retrieval system that performs relevance feedback on both the images’ semantic contents represented by parts of the Web document as well as the low-level visual features. In addition, we will establish an approach with which semantic content and low-level features can be seamlessly integrated for the relevance feedbacks. More specifically, we will examine closely a number of ways that would combine visual and textual information for the content based indexing of multimedia on the Web. In particular, we will also propose and scrutinize different strategies of incorporating various mono media indexing approaches to create a multimedia indexing scheme for the purpose of image searches.

Distributed Multimedia Workstation For Medieval Manuscripts

This paper presents the Web version of the philological workstation BAMBI (Better Access to Manuscript and Browsing of Images) and its design. The BAMBI Web workstation allows historians, and more particularly philologists, to work on manuscripts (transcription, annotations, indexing, etc.) alongside the Internet network. Our approach for the Web implementation of the philological workstation i...

Statistical sequential analysis for real-time video scene change detection on compressed multimedia bitstream

The increased availability and usage of multimedia information have created a critical need for efficient multimedia processing algorithms. These algorithms must offer capabilities related to browsing, indexing, and retrieval of relevant data. A crucial step in multimedia processing is that of reliable video segmentation into visually coherent video shots through scene change detection. Video s...

Semantics for Multimedia on the Web

The vision of the Semantic Web entails that large amounts of multimedia data should be annotated with semantic meta data. Current technology for content-based image interpretation is too limited for automated annotation of visual material. Techniques used by image search engines are also very poor and are unlikely to be improved in the near future. So, human annotations are required to make lar...

Exploiting Web Images for Semantic Video Indexing Via Robust Sample-Specific Loss

Semantic video indexing, also known as video annotation or video concept detection in literatures, has been attracting significant attention in recent years. Due to deficiency of labeled training videos, most of the existing approaches can hardly achieve satisfactory performance. In this paper, we propose a novel semantic video indexing approach, which exploits the abundant usertagged Web image...

Content Based Radiographic Images Indexing and Retrieval Using Pattern Orientation Histogram

Introduction: Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is a method of image searching and retrieval in a  database. In medical applications, CBIR is a tool used by physicians to compare the previous and current  medical images associated with patients pathological conditions. As the volume of pictorial information  stored in medical image databases is in progress, efficient image indexing and retri...
